Audience of Tipalet Ad

The main audience of the Tipalet ad was men in the 1960's who smoked or men who wanted women to be attracted to them. Also, men who already were buying Tipalet cigarettes. The audience was supposed to think that by buying these cigarettes women were attracted to the smell they gave off and would therefore follow her man or any man around.  -Amber

  1. I think this is interesting, because just like today, these are young people who the ad wants to hook into smoking. But it's also playing into the ideology of dominant male sexuality.

  2. This is an interesting advertisement because it even draws in people who don't already smoke. It is the idea that it will make women be attracted to them. I think you could make your audience analysis a little more specific. What age group? What class of people? The ad is probably geared more towards the upper class.

  3. The beautiful girl immediately attracts the viewers attention, especially younger males. If they believe they can get a girl like that just because of the cigarette then they will want to start smoking. Also, the younger males will become addicted and soon be lifelong customers.

  4. I like the analysis and I think its true that men in their late teens through their 20s would be drawn to this ad. I think that this sends the message that men who smoke have a higher chance of finding a partner and reproducing. Or in a sense, that smoking increases their chances during sexual selection when in fact it most likely does the opposite. (Of course, being a Bio major, I find a way to relate this to biology...)

  5. Yes, I see that it could be intended to draw the younger generation of men, but what was the census on the middle aged and the elderly? Did it have the same effects? Not at all?

  6. It is interesting to see the perspective of the creator of this commerical. It seems to belittle women making them appear more as objects that will change on command rather than humans with feelings.
